A unique opportunity on the banks of the River Nordurá!

High-quality, spacious summer cottages for year-round use for sale on freehold plots in the stunning Borgarfjördur landscape.

A high-quality, durable asset

The holiday home development was planned by the architect Hildigunnur Halldórsdóttir. The cottages stand on freehold plots and are built in accordance with the strictest requirements for quality and finishing work. Architect Gudfinna Thordarson designed the cottages. The cottages are all single storey and their basic construction is pre-cast sandwich-units from Loftorka. The exterior is fitted with a maintenance-free cladding made of timber, aluminium, or stone tiles; in other respects the cottages are made of timber. The cladding’s colouring is generally earthy and the roofs are partly covered with natural turf to match the surrounding landscape, which is predominantly birch woods and mossy lava fields. The main building and guest cottage may be up to 140 m2. Additionally, a utilities basement may be constructed under the north part of the building, wherever natural circumstances permit. The cottages are equipped with a heating system cast into the flooring material, which is laid over the bottom slabs. The cottages have hot and cold water, three-phase electricity and state-of-the-art electrical systems, data systems and sewage systems. Roads run up to all cottages and each has its own parking area.

The area is a natural treasure

The holiday home development is on the banks of the River Nordurá, just above the waterfall Glanni and Paradísarlaut (Paradise Hollow), where clear ground water emerges from under the Grábrók lava-field and forms a small crystal-clear pond in an astonishingly beautiful and lush dell. The surrounding mountains provide breathtaking vistas and contrasting views that take in the birch-clad slopes of nearby farmsteads and shield-volcanoes. The area boasts extremely good weather conditions and an infinite choice of hiking trails, short and long, easy and difficult. Close by is a nine-hole golf course, the Bifröst University and Hredavatnsskáli, an iconic Icelandic rural restaurant and gathering place. All of this, and the area's aura of romance, is described in the Hredavatn Waltz. The area was generally referred to as a lovers’ paradise.

Nearby recreation options

The Glanni Golf course is a new, well laid out and popular nine-hole golf course. Top Icelandic golf experts acted as advisors during the design and development of the course. The golf course has a small, cosy clubhouse, Glannaskáli, which provides all general clubhouse services during the summer. There is horse riding at Jafnaskard, angling in Lake Hredavatn and in other lakes and rivers in the neighbourhood, catering in Hredavatnsskáli and Hraunsnef, a grocery store and small swimming pool at Bifröst, and a larger pool at Varmaland. A number of highly enjoyable day-trips are available in the area, and there are many interesting places to visit in the Borgarfjördur countryside, in Dalir, out on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, and even over the mountain passes to the north.

A development of 24 houses suited for a unique area

The development is divided into 24 freeholding plots with a fully asphalted street system. All utilities have already been installed and all connecting fees paid. The same high demands were made for the street design and utilities as for comparable new constructions in urban areas. There are softly lit pathways throughout the area and a children’s playground. An outdoor recreation and playground area is located in Vídines, the spit of land between the development and the River Nordurá. The entire design and development of the area gives the locality a coherent and attractive appearance. All constructions in the area must meet high conditions for quality, conformity to the natural environment, and permanence. The development is located in one of the most beautiful natural environments in Iceland, providing endless options for outdoor activities and recreation.
